Getting started with Salesforce & Trailhead - Extreme Beginner


Are you new to Salesforce and not sure where to start?

I just turned 1 a few weeks ago and have been in a contemplative frame of mind, reflecting upon the before Salesforce era.  In a few short months, I went from a frail, stationary baby to a walking, talking Trailhead Baby with 4 Superbadges and Salesforce Administrator Certification.  The Trailhead Baby blog started with 0 subscribers and now has over 500.  If you have been following the Trailhead Baby since the beginning - Thank you!  How did I move from tiny baby to brave Trailblazer?  Keep reading.

What is an information system?
To understand the need for a stellar customer relationship management system (CRM for short!), it is helpful to first grasp a few technical basics.  This 3 minute video shows why data organization is critical.


Next, log into Trailhead for your first module:  CRM Basics.

We are easing into the Trailhead world- this module is quick, so you can complete it during lunch, or in my case, with a nice bottle of milk.  

What is a database?
These videos give a deeper look into how Salesforce organizes your data.  Trailhead Baby developed an appreciation for Salesforce by gaining a basic understanding of the challenges involved with maintaining complex data relationships.  The simple definition of key terms such as "record" is very helpful.

If you are wondering- Why classic? - when you have heard wonderful things about the "lightning experience," this trail is only available in classic.  After learning the basics, you can blaze into lightning!

Your 1st Trail: CRM Essentials
If you are more inclined to click than code, Admin Beginner is the perfect second trail.  2 modules are focused on lightning, so you will learn the essentials of both options.  

The final step of moving from extreme beginner to a Trailhead novice is to complete your very first project!  Projects are a fun way to practically apply your new skills.  My favorite beginner projects is: "Build a Battle Station App."  If you are not a fan of galaxies far far away, you can build a lemonade stand instead.

Service Cloud Specialist Superbadge - 4,5,6,7

Part of doing the Service Cloud Specialist superbadge is trying new things, so I am putting up picture of new things that I've tried recently.  One of my favorite new things this week was taking a shower with my whole block collection.  Mom put me in the shower, and I sneaked out to grab the block bin and dumped it in.  I'm concerned to share photos because of the slight nudity, however, I can assure you that it was a glorious adventure.  Instead, I'll share my favorite Saturday new thing- walking to the coffee shop for a sprinkle donut!  Back to the superbadge... Business Administration Specialist Superbadge- 3 & 4

This afternoon, I added a genius wig in an attempt to look a little older and more experienced.  The free lemonade offer worked!  I made two dollars today!  A huge thank you to Jocelyn Fennewald , Salesforce MVP, for pointing out the "remove all columns" option within the report creator.  When you start a create a new report, simply click to start with a clean screen.  If you are familiar with report and dashboards, this challenge should only take 30 or so minutes to complete.  Below are tips and gotchas for each report / dashboard.  If you need more help, leave a comment!
