Lightning Experience Specialist Superbadge - 1 & 2

For you - my favorite blog reader... Today I start on what will likely be a rather painful journey - completing the Lightning Experience Specialist Superbadge a second time.  Why?  This was my first superbadge, and my posts were not as detailed as they should have been.  I want to help by bringing better documentation to this difficult Superbadge.  Thank you Salesforce for making it tricky! Let's get started by completing the prework: Install the unmanaged package and rename the standard objects.  Unsure how to rename a standard object? Search for Rename Tabs and Lables within the Setup menu It's a quiz, so I'll let you tackle that one on your own. If you already completed the pre-work, skip directly to assigning the default page layouts. A hint: After selecting "Page Layout Assignment," you can use SHIFT + click to select all of the profiles and assign en masse. Unfortunately, I do not have a quick way to deact

The world is not ready for a Trailhead advice booth.  I switched the sign to a more stereotypical kid offering and sold out within an hour.   This challenge looks tricky on first glance because the instructions do not spell out the Salesforce names for each item.  For example- Business Lifecycle Name equals a Sales Process.  The secret to this challenge is to think logically about what a Salesforce term would be for each goal. If you need help, consult the chart below.  The Salesforce terms are in orange. Collaboration.  Hmmm.  How would users chat together about business topic and inside jokes? The answer: Chatter! Since the posts should only be visible to members, it would make sense to set the group view to "private."  I am sure that Ada Balewa will be a great group manager and will delete any inside jokes that become stale.  After all, without Ada, we couldn't shine so brightly. A silly Trailhead Baby oops:  Make sure to post your @mention to Ada.

This afternoon, I added a genius wig in an attempt to look a little older and more experienced.  The free lemonade offer worked!  I made two dollars today!  A huge thank you to Jocelyn Fennewald , Salesforce MVP, for pointing out the "remove all columns" option within the report creator.  When you start a create a new report, simply click to start with a clean screen.  If you are familiar with report and dashboards, this challenge should only take 30 or so minutes to complete.  Below are tips and gotchas for each report / dashboard.  If you need more help, leave a comment! Reports Accounts by Market To create the "Market" row grouping, use a bucket field. Make sure that the correct date range is selected. High Value Residential  This report includes: 1 filter, 1 grouping, and 1 summarized field.  Rated Accounts by State The record count for state and account rating are automatically added. Note the filter.  Open Support Cases You ma

I wonder if people are not quite ready to pay for my Trailhead expertise.  I tried a one day "free" special, but traffic was surprisingly light. Let's set up some users!  Make sure to note the special naming for the "username" and "nickname" of each person.  Spanish and Spanish (Mexico) are two language options.  Make sure to select the correct one.  A user must be a "marketing user" in order to set up and execute marketing campaigns. This challenge was a good example of what happens when you don't read all of the instructions first.  I missed Shinje's data needs, where Lance grew up, and that only Lance should view Salesforce in Spanish.  As an English-only speaker, it's tough to switch your org back to English from Spanish.  Don't make my mistake!

During the afternoons, I've been raising money for Salesforce certifications and chocolate cupcakes by operating a Trailhead genius bar in the front yard.  So far, nobody has stopped by.  I gave up and headed inside to start a new project.  It's time for another Superbadge!  Thank you Salesforce for keeping the code-free superbadges coming! As always, start a new Superbadge by reading the pre-notes!  Step 1 is to install the unmanaged package.  A tip for installing packages: If you are working on the same machine that you use for other Salesforce Orgs, the package may attempt to install into the incorrect org.  To change the org, copy the URL of your Trailhead Playground and insert it into the URL of  the unmanaged package install page.  An example:  I used everything after the "https://" and stopped after the "force.com" Having trouble?  Leave a comment! I do not like editing .CSV files, so I saved the doc to my desktop, then opened it as

Can you trust the reviews? A critical look at the Salesforce AppExchange.

My mom published this article on LinkedIn, and I just have to share.  It is quite clever.  Enjoy! While researching Salesforce data backup providers on the AppExchange, I discovered something intriguing. I navigated to a random profile for a person who wrote a review and was surprised to find that the profile contained no information other than the person's name. How could I verify that this review was from a real customer? This is the review: The user's profile:  https://success.salesforce.com/profile?u=0053A00000DLnOiQAL Did this user create a Salesforce profile solely for the purpose of writing a review? Possibly. The Experiment:  Search for "backup" in the Salesforce AppExchange and sort by rating. Use 6 top rated data backup vendors and determine what percentage of the reviews are from "Trustworthy" vs. "Questionable" profiles. The Question:  Can you trust Salesforce AppExchange reviews? I started with my own company b
