My First Dreamforce - What not to bring

Dear friends- Something incredible happened today, and I just couldn't wait to share.  My 2nd birthday is coming up, and I have been dropping hints that a Dreamforce trip would be the perfect gift.  Perhaps it was the postcard that I mailed to myself from Astro.  Perhaps it was the freshly brewed coffee that I made and brought to mom in a Giants' mug on Saturday morning.  Regardless of the reason, I am headed to Dreamforce! (My little brother is headed into the kitchen - see photo!)  Us boys are going places!


I have been reading "get ready" and "best tips" blogs for the past month, just in case mom decided to let me go.  The advice is geared towards everything you should bring, so here is my list of things NOT to bring.   
  1. A phone.  It's easy to send emails from the office, but from a phone - come on! Forget the charger, leave the phone in your diaper bag, and talk to people.  (Plus, I don't have a phone)  
  2. A friend.  I am headed to Dreamforce solo.  It's a little scary, but the goal is to meet people.  I have plenty of time at home to chat with friends - Dreamforce is all about making new friends!  It is, however, helpful to have an airport buddy if you are not tall enough to reach the check-in counter. 
  3. A rigid schedule.  I signed up for a few sessions, but mostly, my plan is to pop into whatever session happens to be near me at the time.  If I only sign up for topics I'm comfortable with, I might miss out on opportunities to learn about new things.

Lightning Experience Specialist Superbadge - 8

The best present? Santa says that I am getting a little brother in April! Let's import some data!  It's simple to mass delete the records if there are inserted incorrectly - and you have me to help!  The goal with this post is to move beyond the "how" of data import and explain the "why."  The challenge makes more sense when you think about the relationships between the objects.  I'll explain more below. First: A confession I, the Trailhead Baby, am not a perfect Salesforce admin.  Even though I completed this entire Superbadge in 2017, I still messed up the data import badly enough that I had to mass delete all of my records and start over.   Quick tip: It may help to delete the existing data before you start the import.  This way, when you extract recordID's, you only extract the ID's of the records that you have already imported vs. the records that were already in the Trailhead Playground by default. Service Cloud Specialist Superbadge - 1,2,3

A confession - I know next to nothing about service cloud.  While I was excited that a new superbadge was available, it made me a little nervous that I had to do all of the prerequisites and tackle new things like macros.  New things - new year - let's get started! (Right after I finish guitar practice) If you are also a service cloud novice, the Omni-Channel Basics is a crucial prerequisite even though it is not officially required.
